When a pool starts losing pressure or the water stops clearing up the way it should, the filter is usually where the trouble is hiding. That was the case on this Hemet job. The DE filter had clogged up, and once we opened it we could see exactly why.
A DE filter works using diatomaceous earth, a fine white powder that coats a set of grids inside the tank. That thin layer is what traps the small dirt and debris other filters let slip through. The grids are the frame that holds it all, so when they fail the whole filter fails with them.
The grids inside this one had reached the end of their life. Take a look at the old set pulled out and leaned against the tree. The fabric was caked, stained, and packed solid with old DE and buildup that no amount of rinsing was going to bring back. When grids get loaded like that, water can no longer pass through them cleanly. The filter fights to push flow, pressure climbs, and the pool ends up under filtered no matter how much you run the system. Left long enough, that same strain gets passed straight to the pump.
Grids are the heart of a DE filter. They are what the diatomaceous earth clings to, and that thin coat is what actually traps the fine dirt and debris that cartridges and sand can miss. Once the fabric tears, packs solid, or wears thin, the whole system loses the thing that makes it work. You can keep adding DE, but if the grids are shot the pool will never come fully clear.
So we pulled the old assembly and installed a complete new set of grids, clean and bright white and ready to filter the way they should. We seated everything back into the manifold, reassembled the tank, charged it with a fresh coat of DE, and brought the system back online. Right away the pressure dropped back into normal range and the filter started pulling the water clear again.
A clogged filter rarely fixes itself, and the longer it runs strained the more it costs you in energy and wear on the pump. Getting the grids replaced at the right time is what keeps a small part from turning into a big repair. Aqualux Pool Care serves Hemet and the greater San Jacinto Valley, CA, and we will get to the bottom of why your filter is clogging and bring it back to full strength. When your filter is doing its job right, everything else about your pool gets easier.
